The band first got together in the spring 2000. The forming of the group Avalanche was partly a result of setting up the musical Ronja Rövardotter. Elin Mörk acted as "Ronja", Tord Hjukström as her father "Mattis" , Inge Ludvigsson as "Lillklippen" and Rebecka Hjukström and Sophia Hogman were singing bushes and trees and stones or whatever. So the only one not participating in the musical was the base-player Tobias Redborn, and on the record "Avalanche" and as member for the first year, Maria Andersson. Softgrass Music was a result of the first record. After 2 years Tobias left the band. Sophia Hogman joined the band in the spring 2001. The name Avalanche was for many years, earlier used by Tord Hjukström, as a name for an art-project or artist-group, formed by himself with himself. Unfortunately the name is occupied by all there is from hockey-players to musicians. So the name of the group was for a while "Avalanche and the Abalone Dots" but were cut down to just Abalone Dots. (Abalone Dots are the pearly dots on the finger-board of a guitar or a mandolin) During 2003 the Abalone Dots won the finest prize on the "Musik Direkt final" which is supposed to be the biggest talent contest in Sweden. The prize was to play in Tanzania at the "Music Crossroad Festival" At this time Louise Holmer joined the band. She learned how to play uppright base in a few weeks and has been a "solid" member since then. Four times we played in the Swedish television In 2004 we made the tour in USA, which was a success in many ways. We met a lot of legends and great musicians and a lot of ordinary nice people. We actually have people in eleven states, who have promised to help us the next time. All of this you can find on the DVD Abalone Dots USA 2004 "The roadmovie" Then the girls went to different schools for the winters to come and in the summers we played Swedish festivals. From Karlshamn in the south to Piteå in the north. With Softgrass Music there are three albums. Avalanche 2000, The Christmas album 2002, Softgrass Music 2003, a roadmovie on DVD and a lot of fun to remember. And now 2007 the girls have left me and Softgrass Music and signed up with Sony BMG.
The story is supposed to continue in the future, but for now it will end here.
